MemberShip

Membership, the foundation.

It is no suprise that I am using the Membership Product I maintain. Indeed, this is one of the reasons I have done the work on Membership that I have. Currently, it is using the 0.6 release, but will be upgraded to 0.7.0 by the end of the week.

The Needs of the Existing Structure

The Linux in Boise Club has a membership process and roster. With the membership comes membership on the site. Maintenance of the roster, it was decided, would be done in Zope, using the ZODB. If we feel the need, we can develop a GUI-ified, Linux based non-HTML app to continue, but that will likely just happen for fun.

Thus, we needed to have a system where not just anyone can join, we have another site that provides that. In that light, LiBC's website is more of a community site, than a portal site.

The Structure of the User System

Though it is a community site, I decided to implement a non-user folder based system. We will be offering members and contributors the ability to add certain types of objects. However, I want to keep the site consistent between member changes, IOW, if a member leaves, or changes their name, it should not go breaking links.
