Source Safe info

This is a Zope Product that once installed allows you to add instances of a 'Source Safe Root'.

A Source Safe Root is a folderish object which allows a number of users to check out, check in, comment on and edit files / documents through the web. Keeps track of which users have checked out which files for editing and only allows those users to check them back in. Compatible with 'External File' for managing, for example, software source files on a development server.

Install

Install the Product by uncompressing the .tar.gz file in your Zope installation Products folder. Restart Zope.

Useage

  • Create a Source Safe Root
  • Place collaborative documents, files, folders or 'External Files' in the Source Safe Root
  • Share the Source Safe Root URL among your workgroup and to check out a document for editing click the 'Checked Out' red cross. It will turn to a green tick and your login name indicating that you have checked the item out for editing. When you have finished editing the item check it back in by clicking the green tick.
  • For a Software Source Safe try the following, for example, to manage your Microsoft IIS website development through Zope (as we did on our Development Server).
    • Install the 'External File' Product
    • Add a Batch 'External File' and subdirectories based on a local file such as 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\'. Exclude directories that begin with '_' as External File doesn't like them.
    • Share the Source Safe Root URL with your workgroup. Changes you make to the files through Zope are now immediately reflected in your IIS website.
