MyMediaManager 1.2 - 19/06/03

INSTALLATION: Please read the DEPENDS.txt file to find out what products this product rely on. Please read the INSTALL.txt file in order to read the installation instructions. * Read the CHANGES.txt to find out what has changed since the last version.

USAGE: When you have followed the INSTALL.txt file and installed MyMediaManager succesfully, you are ready to set up the system for your users. Before your users can start adding media content, you must set up the medianet, install server plugins and add some media servers for them to use:

  • Go to Zope Management Interface (ZMI)
  • Find the portal_medianet tool in the portal root and click on it.
  • In the portal_medianet tool there is some extra management tabs: Server Plugins, Encoder Plugins and Streaming Formats. Click on Server Plugins in order to install the required server plugins.
  • The Server Plugins page will list all the server plugins you have installed on the filesystem for MyMediaManager to use. Now click on Install for the plugins you want to install. Once installed, you can use the server types on the portal.

After installing the server plugins (and when logged in as a user with the Manage Portal permission - Managers have it by default), you will have an action in your portal named Setup Medianet. Click on this and you will come to the admin form of the medianet. Here you can add the different servers. Click on Start server wizard in order to add a new server. It takes you through 4 steps:

  • Step 1: Select the type of content (Live or On-demand depending on what plugins you installed).
  • Step 2: Streaming format. A list of formats will be listed depending on what plugins you installed.
  • Step 3: Streaming Server: A list of server types will be listed depending on what plugins you installed.
  • Step 4: Title and description: You must give you server a title that tells the purpose of the server (e.g. Real Archive Server) since the title of the server will be used various places in the system user interface.
  • Create the server.

As with any other content in your portal, media servers are portal content. So in order for others to use them, they will need privileges to access the server. In a standard setup, this means that your servers need to be published.

MyMediaManager uses ftp to upload the media files to the media servers. So you need to create a content dir on your media server which can be accessed by ftp (and have a ftp server on the media server) in order for the upload to success.

After going through the steps above, your MyMediaManager should be up an running.
