How to edit potfiles for PlacelessTranslationService

Translation Tools

You can use plain text editors (like vi and notepad) to edit .po file.

Emacs has po-mode.el to work with .po catalogs.

Or use specialized tools like KBabel (from KDE), GTranslator (from GNOME) and poEdit (mutiplatform)

poEdit

WARNING : poEdit is removing nonstandard metadata from .po files. If you want to try it on a live site you need to hand-edit .po file before compiling. You have to add following lines to first msgid ""/msgstr "" pair (example for Ukrainian):

    "Language-code: uk\n"
    "Language-name: Ukrainan\n"
    "Preferred-encodings: utf-8 koi8-u windows-1251\n"
    "Domain: plone\n"

and format .po to .mo manually:

    poEdit\bin\msgfmt.exe -v -o plone-uk-ua.mo plone-uk-ua.po
