Base18 Released

Base18 is a proof of concept which shows that it is possible to extend the current Zope CMF and Localizer in order to be able to allow members of a CMF portal to translate some documents and store their translations as a special kind of document.

Once a document has been translated by a portal member, the translation can then be registered through a new kind of tool, portal_translations which associates each portal document to a set of appropriate translation documents. Whenever a document is rendered, portal_translations is used to translate each sentence of that document by finding the appropriate translation in portal_translations. A DC workflow allows to control the registration process for translations.

Because Base18 uses Localizer and gettex technology, translation documents can be implemented as .po files which can easily be edited with KBabel for example (see bellow).

Base18 is a subproject of the ERP5 project. It was designed in order to be able to use Zope as the infrastructure for the ERP5 portal. It is used already for the Storever online shop.
